Using the General Practice Nurse Training Programme
There are eight units featured, covering a broad range of topics relevant to practice nursing. Throughout the programme, clinical scenarios are included, enabling clinical application of content to practice. These will be further explored at the supporting workshops. Unit 1 must be accessed first but the remainder can be accessed in any order, once Unit 1 has been completed.
Assessment
At the end of each unit there is a self-assessment questionnaire for you to test your understanding. Successful completion of each unit will be dependent upon passing the relevant questionnaire. In addition, you are advised to assess your individual progression in skill development through observed practice, audit, peer review and reflection on significant events. To do this effectively, you will need support from an experienced practice nurse or mentor, either from within your practice or a colleague from a local practice.
Workshops
To support your professional development two facilitated workshops are provided as part of the programme. These will be held several times a year at various locations and can be attended anytime after completion of the first unit. They will cover some ‘core principles’ reinforcing aspects of the programme and exploring issues in practice through case studies and group work. They will be very interactive and flexible, allowing for questions and answers in a relaxed environment. There will also be the opportunity for individual time with the facilitators at the workshops. For information about how to attend a workshop, click ‘View available workshops’ on the home page.
To access the units, click on the unit title and upon completion, return to select another unit using the ‘Topics covered’ menu.
